EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH

Ciné’s commitment to educational programming includes community outreach initiatives with public schools in the Athens area, hosting many diverse student groups for special narrative and documentary film screenings, as well as panel discussions on current events and social activism. This vibrant collaboration with Athens’ schools and educators furthers Ciné’s mission to bring artistic and cultural educational opportunities to the local community.

Recent events include hosting class field trip screenings for students and educators from Barrow Elementary, Chase Street Elementary, Clarke Middle, North Oconee High, Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary and Athens Montessori School, as well as these community engagements:



Network for Public Education Coalition’s Day of Action to Prevent Gun Violence in Schools

As a joint collaboration with NPE, ULead, and the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement, Ciné co-presents a discussion with a diverse panel of teens on that date to address how to make Athens safer for everyone, everywhere. Teens will share stories of their recent experiences protesting gun violence or learning about peace, activism and leadership.


Youth Leadership Athens Arts Tour

Hosting a film segment of the unique annual arts experience: “Exploring The Arts in Athens” with Athens-Clarke County’s premier leadership program for area high school sophomores and juniors.


Boys & Girls Club of Athens BLACK PANTHER Challenge

Coordinated with local businesses and sponsors, a series of special screenings offering children in marginalized communities in Athens an opportunity to see the film BLACK PANTHER on the big screen.


BACKPACK FULL OF CASH Screenings with Local Education Expo & Fundraiser

A community presentation of the documentary feature exploring the growing privatization of public schools and the resulting impact on America’s most vulnerable children. All proceeds will benefit several Athens area education charities, with representatives on hand with information about each of their organizations:  Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement, Athens Peer Court, AthFest Educates, Awesome Clubhouse @ La Escuelita, Books For Keeps, Chess and Community, Clarke County Mentor Program, Experience UGA, Family Connection/Communities in Schools, Food2Kids (Food Bank), Foundation for Excellence, Seed Life Skills, Strong Girls, U-Lead Athens, Young Designers Program, Young Urban Farmers (Athens Land Trust).


Camp DIVE Summer Screenings

Camp DIVE (Discover, Inquire, Voice, Explore) is a partnership between the Clarke County School District, the University of Georgia College of Education, and the Athens-Clarke County community, to provide an engaging and enriching summer experience for K-8 students, while also giving UGA students the opportunity to get hands-on experience working with children and youth.


Chess & Community Events

Documentary film screenings and fundraising events for this youth development organization that equips, exposes, and impacts youth with real world experiences through mentoring, traveling, and community service.
